Who can join the classes at Shotokan Karate Richmond?
Our classes are open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist, you're welcome to join us and begin your karate journey.
Do I need any prior experience in martial arts to join?
No prior experience is necessary. Our classes cater to students of all skill levels, including beginners who are new to martial arts.
What do I need to bring to my first class?
For your first class, we recommend wearing comfortable workout clothes. If you have a white gi (karate uniform), you're welcome to wear it, but it's not required for the initial session. Additionally, please bring a water bottle and arrive a few minutes early to fill out any necessary paperwork.
How often should I attend classes?
We recommend attending classes regularly to make consistent progress in your karate training. Depending on your schedule and availability, you can attend classes once or twice a week.
Are there opportunities for competitions or belt testing?
Yes, we offer opportunities for students to participate in karate tournaments and competitions, as well as belt testing to advance through the ranks. However, participation in these events is optional, and students are not required to compete or test for belts if they prefer not to.
Is there a minimum age requirement for students?
While there is no strict minimum age requirement, we typically recommend that students be at least 6 years old to participate in our classes. Younger students may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, depending on their maturity level and ability to follow instructions.
Is there a membership fee or contract required?
We offer flexible membership options with no long-term contracts. Students can choose from monthly, quarterly, or annual memberships based on their preferences. Additionally, we offer a trial period for new students to experience our classes before committing to a membership.
