五本組手 - Gohon Kumite

Gohon Kumite, meaning "Five-Step Sparring," is a fundamental training exercise in traditional karate. It is designed to teach and refine basic techniques, timing, distance, and the principles of attack and defense. Gohon Kumite is a structured form of sparring that lays the groundwork for more advanced sparring practices.

Gohon Kumite involves a set pattern where one practitioner (the attacker) performs five consecutive attacks, and the other practitioner (the defender) responds with five corresponding blocks and counters. This repetitive and disciplined practice helps both participants develop a strong foundation in karate basics.

The attacker (Semete), upon assuming the ready position, announces the target and then begins the attack. Each strike is delivered with speed, power, and proper form. Sudden and rapid leg and hip movements are crucial for effective attacks. Each of the five strikes should embody the spirit of "Ikken Hissatsu" (to kill with a single blow), ensuring each attack is decisive and powerful.
